From delivery to first heat

There are two ways to install a Sōk sauna. Our crew can build it on site in a single day, or you can assemble the pre-cut kit yourself over a weekend. Either way, a licensed electrician connects the heater.

  6. Hand on the heater control dial
    062–3 hours

    Connect the heater

Your electrician connects the heater and control panel, tests the circuit and issues a certificate of compliance. Keep it with your warranty paperwork.

  7. Bench underglow in the evening

    Run the first heat

Heat the empty sauna for an hour with the door closed to cure the heater and settle the timber. Expect a faint smell the first time; it won't come back.

What your site needs

Four things decide whether a spot will work. If you're unsure about any of them, a free site consult will settle it.

A level base

Concrete slab, pavers or adjustable pedestals, 100 mm larger than the footprint on every side, with no more than 5 mm of fall per metre.

Clear access

A path at least 900 mm wide from the street to the site. The longest panels are 2.4 m, so check tight corners and side gates.

A dedicated circuit

The heater runs on its own circuit from your switchboard. Larger heaters may need three-phase power; your electrician will confirm.

Room to breathe

At least 300 mm clear of fences and walls, and 1 m of clearance above the roof to overhanging branches.

Installing a Sōk, answered

How long does it take to install a Sōk sauna?

With our full-service install, the build itself takes one day and the heater is connected the same afternoon. Self-installers usually need about two days with two people, plus time to prepare the base beforehand.

Can I install the sauna myself?

Yes. Every Sōk is available as a pre-cut kit with numbered panels, bagged fixings and an illustrated guide. If you are comfortable with a drill and a spirit level, two people can build it over a weekend.

Do I need an electrician?

Yes, for both options. In Australia the heater must be connected by a licensed electrician. With full service we arrange this for you; if you self-install, you book your own and we send them the wiring spec.

Do I need council approval for an outdoor sauna?

Most backyard saunas fall under exempt or complying development, but rules vary by council, size and distance to boundaries. Check with your local council before ordering. We can share the drawings they usually ask for.

What kind of base does a sauna need?

A level concrete slab, pavers or adjustable pedestals, at least 100 mm larger than the footprint on every side, with no more than 5 mm of fall per metre. Level matters more than material.

Does self-installing affect the warranty?

No. The 10-year structural warranty applies to both options, provided the sauna is built to our guide on a compliant base and the heater is connected by a licensed electrician.

Can I switch from self-install to full service?

Yes, any time before your delivery date. Just let us know and we will lock in an install crew and adjust your order.

Not sure which suits you?

Book a free site consult. We'll look at your space and tell you honestly whether a weekend build makes sense.
